beautiful,beautiful boy

"out on the ocean sailing away
i can hardly wait to see you
come of age but i guess we'll both just
have to be patient 'cause it's a long

way to go a hard row to hoe...
yes,it's a long way to go ~
but in the meantime...before you cross
the street take my hand...
life is what happens to you while you're
making other plans...."

it's here...you have come of age, before i even knew it
happy,happy birthday my darling tony!

studio friday {playtime}

"today it's all about me" b said. and as it should be,i say!
i needed to come up with a not your ordinary, run of the mill
birthday card for my not your ordinary, run of the mill friend,
becky.tomorrow is her birthday and she well deserves
something special,so after i spoke to her earlier today and
shared i probably wouldn't participate in this weeks prompt
for studio friday and after work and dinner...i decided to get
my fingers full of paint and jump in after all!what fun it was to
do this excercise....it set me free from a bunch of hooey i have
been caught up in for the last few days and got my creative pump
primed!
the card is made from a piece of heavy colored cardstock
that i fingerpainted with golden titan buff and a limey color i mixed up,
then added rub on words, embossed a bit and added the adorable
image of b that i had gotten from her awhile ago....all is complete with
a bejewelled crown and a twinkle in her eyes!

my snapshots of mom & dad circa 1970.
always with the pictures.still today.

"when i think back
on all the crap i learned in high school
it’s a wonder i can think at all
and though my lack of education
hasn’t hurt me none I can read the writing on the wall
kodachrome they give us those nice bright colors

they give us the greens of summer
makes you think all the world’s a sunny day
i got a nikon camera
i love to take a photograph
so mama don’t take my kodachrome away........"

studio friday {practice makes perfect}

since getting my first sewing machine in october,i have
come a long way in putting my fear of the thing to rest....
because of practice. however, much more time and patience
are needed as i try to become one with the bobbin,i seek to
perfect my bobbin issues!

fixation of the moment

this^ is why i am not getting any paint or glue on my
hands lately.
i have become addicted to ripping and burning compact
discs,my dear daughter set me in motion and now i can't
stop! when i was her age i would spend hours "making" cassette
tapes of favorite songs...i loved hearing how each of my chosen
tunes flowed into the next...it was somehow a sountrack to my life.
an audio journal,so to speak.
well, what was once old~is new again...to me! and having a rippin' good time!
i found these way great sticker covers at art mart the other day...who knew?

irene charlotte & richard roe my paternal grandparents...
he was a sailor,a chauffeur for the wealthy and a steelworker.
he was an amazing athlete and played soccer into his adulthood,
he fiercely loved all of his children(5) and grandkids(21)...he called me
"sweetie kid".
she was the sweeeetest, most loving, gentle and kind woman you would
ever want to meet.she wielded a mean crochet hook and made tons
of granny square afghans...one for each grandkid and each great grand
baby(48) came home from the hospital bundled in one, with matching
hats, sweaters & booties.why,oh why did i not pay closer attention when
she taught me how to crochet way back when?!
and they were beautiful to look at...they both had the most gorgeous
bone structures...i miss looking at them....and being in their presence.

a precious distraction

my 2 year old niece came to play on friday
evening and left last night...what a hoot she is!
soooo serious and silly, a good combination, a
precious distraction,a breath of fresh air, cute
as a button,sharp as a tack...another gift from God!

studio friday {i spy}

if you go to the original
altered cabinet card,
through the wash of gesso
and stamped circles
you will spy a heart!

*i highlighted the heart,red,
in picasa.

for me,
for some reason,
this is a big part of who i am
and at this point in my life,
seeking to understand is an important
factor in getting past and moving on,
for crying out loud.
i am grateful that self portrait tuesday came along and that
this "passage" in my life has this creative outlet to help
me with my personal history.

gifted

winter gifts from good friends
i love how this played out....my friends becky, pat & carol
gave me fabulous, wonderous gifts after Christmas...and i love
that! the stress was gone...only sisterhood, good company and these
amazing gifts!!!

pat and i spent the day breaking bread and walking the main st.
in historic st.charles...she presented me with what is now my new
studio muse...the adorable "lil' prankster"gund bear & other great
goodies!

becky and i met at our meeting place...barnes & noble, and she
gifted me with the most perfect charms, with the most perfect
messages tucked inside of one of her magnificent mittens...and,
becky created theeee greatest "snow cone"that had a beautiful charm
on a ribbon made by cathy flesher tucked inside it.so thoughtful.

carol and i will get together soon...but until then carol sent the most
jam packed box of paper and embellishments one could only dream of,
really cool file folders...in,out and limbo and a to die for faux croc clutch!

i adore each one of these gifts that i was given....but,i'm gonna get sappy here...
i adore these three genuine, thoughtful, kind, stunning women.....they are the real gifts.
many thanks,girlfriends!

a little culture

it was 50 degrees,i had the day off and nothing better to do,
so h and i took our cameras to u.city and soaked up the
abundance of heady culture that is the loop!
we grabbed a plate of red beans and rice at blueberry hill,
popped in and out of the library, the craft alliance where we
saw the curious teapot exhibit[van gogh & dali just to name a
few "pot heads"],we had to go to rag-0-rama and came away with
a few pleasing garments, then for the main treat we stopped into the
subterranean bookstore to view mary beth shaws one woman
show there...wonderful place for a show of such fabulous art!!!
we had a good old time : )

studio friday {artists uniform}

here it is....my studio uniform, always without
exception,the baggy,comfy,frayed gap jeans
from a million years ago and this week, because its
been a bit chilly here in the midwest, this
ratty v-neck sweater with an even ratty-er tee
underneath (so i have something on when i rip
the sweater off in the event of a hot flash) and i
always have my rubber clogs on in the studio....
there may be stray glass shards, pins or other
sharp objects from my last project i want to avoid!

october 1965 photographed by phil k.
i remember this "photo session" with my dad.
he had just gotten his new 35mm and had
captured me on film arranging my rock collection
in the lid of a shoe box...i was always so fascinated
with these images, because they seemed so "raw"...
not really posed, hair unkempt and me unaware of
my surroundings, lost in amazement with what was in
front of me....natural.
i placed one image over another for this installment of SPT.
my personal history.
