studio friday/time

"When we are in our studios.
I find that I can't be in there
everyday. Particularly when
I have just finished something
I feel drained and need a good
break. I also find that there are
only certain times of the day where
the juices get flowing. I'd be interested
to read/see what others think."
-Jo

the second my foot passes through
the door of my studio...time has
no meaning.
my art space is a time warp of sorts,
where i can loose myself for probably
hours,without a second thought.
i find this to be a good and bad thing...
mostly it is a good thing!

*always a good time

.....................paste papers (you have created a monster, pat!)
...another piece of the puzzle!
after the 12th of august (i think) i will post what i made
using these paste papers. i am in a very unique swap with
a very talented group of st.louis (& surrounding areas) artists.
as i understand, please correct me if i am wrong on this, nancy
& karyl, the swap is called ARTVENT,like advent only taking
place in the summer, each participant is given a number, the
day of the month...then creates as many do-dadas as there are
swappers....we will gather at natalie's home to collect our 30ish
treats (endish of july),then in the comfort of our homes, each day
we will open one gift...i am so excited about this whole idea and i
am preparing myself to be amazed and delighted at the range of
creativity about to be bestowed on me!
soooo until august 13th i will not beable to post what i am fashioning
from the paste paper you see....but stay tuned!

yesterday after the atc workshop,
after being truly gifted by the presence
and talent of the artists there...
i was given these beautiful,tangible
remembrances of the day.[besides the way fab atc's!]
michel murhpy gave me a limited edition atc copy of a
sketch she made of her sister,marilyn...it is just gorgeous!
nancy connelly...you blow me away.
never one to sit idle, nancy fashioned this little woven
creation from the scraps she had left in front of her!
i will treasure each of these, from two of my favorite

studio friday {FaMiLY}

this week's topic suggested by ellen: FaMiLY.
"family history, things that have been passed down from one
family member to the next, family values, all influence me as
an artist, whether i'm consciously aware of it or not.i wonder
how others are influenced or inspired by their families---
either past or present. what family treasures might be found
in others' studios?"
-Ellen

these are three of my favorite family snapshots,in the old style.
the first is my maternal grandpa, samuel,a real character...i
thought the insect wings were suitable somehow!
next is little mary catherine, the baby of her family,my sweet momma.
lastly,flanked by all of her kids,is hilda,my maternal grandma.{who,
on june 9th celebrated her 100th birthday,under the watchful,enthusiastic
eye of her older (102) sister,sophie and our large, loving family!}

my entire family has influenced me in the past,as early as i can recall,
and continues to influence the way i create.i am blessed with tons
of old photos of family and people happy to share stories behind those pictures,
those wacky, wonderful, bitter and sweet memories fuel my creative, over
active imagination...for that i am grateful!
thanks,ellen for conjuring these recollections!

"this life of mine" by denise lombardozzi ~~~ 10x13 atc assemblage in shadowbox

what started out to be one simple artist trading card(ctr)
turned out to be one of my most prized assemblages.
this piece hangs in my studio near my work table as a
daily reminder that i,along with my higher power, one day
at a time, can "design" this life of mine...a-ha & ahhhhhhh...
well aware!

a fraction of the haul...
corey,pat & i enjoyed a fruitful road trip yesterday!
with map in hand we headed to the collinsville rubberstamp
convention, thinking we would buzz in and out in no time flat.
welllllllll, not so...4 hours, heads full of happy inspiration and bags of
artful goodness later we headed back to st.louis, tossing around
some really great fall workshop ideas for rock, paper, scissors!
do stay tuned!
we ended our day nourishing ourselves with yummy sansai food
and kaldi coffee and cookies.
an entirely intoxicating day...thanks girlfriends!

uhu...studio friday

among my lasting favorite art supplies,
above and beyond the tons of papers,
adhesives,paints and rubber stamps i
have collected through the years,these
invaluable tools stand alone:
1.a pressed glass water vessel.
2.a taper point clay shaper that i use to
"move" paint.
3.an amazing pair of scissors that have
been used senseless and are still up to the task.
4.this spatula for applying massive amounts of
molding paste over the course of time.
5.a set of french curves, particularly the long
graceful one.
6.my most prized bone folder, the one i use to spatter
paint...i consider it a work of art itself!
7.a cheap 2 inch wooden handled brush (i have actually
had this for many projects,a good cleaning,i'm attached
what can i say?)
8.at the ready,a tube of golden heavy body acrylic in
titan buff for toning down.
9.a sanding block
10.drum roll....my fav of all art supplies....the UHU gluestick,
i wish for one the size of a can of krylon matte finish, can't you just see it?!

companion,i am amazed at the unlimited ideas and inspiration
that karyl(who needs a blog!) and all of the other gals have
...and what i take home from there in this,my little art journal.

an utterly amazing woman.

of life...i lift my glass to her many
accomplishments,her extreme good
example and her continued well being...
so very grateful for her...just thought you
should know!
