a day in the life of a 2 year old

"a babe in the house is a wellspring of
pleasure, a messenger of peace and love,
a resting place for innocence on earth,
a link between angels and men."

studio friday/playtime

using pulpy, bumpy cotton paper, two near empty tubes of paint,
deep turquoise & white acrylic and a spattering of silver
paint [it needed something!]...my tools were the spent tubes, the
curled up ends and the lids to doodle with. fun excercise! i am
going to cut this up into atc size,i think.

an acceptable level of healthy insanity....

taken from an e-mail from christi ....
"1. AT LUNCH TIME, SIT IN YOUR PARKED CAR WITH SUNGLASSES ON
ON THE SIDE OF A ROAD, AND POINT A HAIRDRYER AT PASSING CARS.
SEE IF THEY SLOW DOWN.
2. PAGE YOURSELF OVER THE INTERCOM.
DON'T DISGUISE YOUR VOICE.
3. EVERY TIME SOMEONE ASKS YOU TO DO SOMETHING, ASK IF THEY
WANT FRIES WITH THAT.
4. PUT YOUR GARBAGE CAN ON YOUR DESK, AND LABEL IT "IN".
5. PUT DECAF IN THE COFFEE MAKER AT WORK FOR 3 WEEKS.
ONCE EVERYONE HAS GOTTEN OVER THEIR CAFFEINE ADDICTION,
SWITCH TO ESPRESSO.
6. FINISH ALL OF YOUR SENTENCES WITH THE PHRASE,
"IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE PROPHECY."
7. DON'T USE ANY PUNCTUATION MARKS WHEN TYPING.
8. AS OFTEN AS POSSIBLE, SKIP RATHER THAN WALK.
9. WHEN ORDERING AT THE DRIVE THROUGH,
SPECIFY THAT YOUR ORDER IS "TO GO".
10. GO TO A POETRY RECITAL AND ASK WHY THE POEMS DON'T RHYME.
11. PUT MOSQUITO NETTING AROUND YOUR WORK AREA.
PLAY A TAPE OF JUNGLE SOUNDS ALL DAY.
12. WHEN YOU GET MONEY OUT OF THE ATM, SCREAM "I WON! I WON!
IT'S THE 3RD TIME THIS WEEK!"

studio friday/invented tool

"Does anybody have an art tool that they have invented
because what they needed just didn't exist? Or perhaps,
they didn't have the tool necessary so they have adapted
something else. Might be interesting."

yep, here it is....after seeing shirley nachtrieb demonstrate ages ago
how to make fab marbled papers with shaving cream & reinkers,
i ran home to make this loose variation of the tool she used.
what this block of wood and crooked nails lacks in beauty,
it way makes up for in function...it works like a champ!

studio friday

lost & found...
my beloved sealing wax and seals. as a teenager nothing
was more important to me than a properly signed and
sealed letter to a friend.....colored inks and stationary
and the news of the day tucked into an envelope with
a plop of wax and the seal of choice to protect those
contents. i treasured these so. the aromatherapy.
then over years, decoupage, ceramics and rubber stamps
moved in and pushed the seals & wax to the background...
only to be found again for this edition of studio friday !

self portrait tuesday...traumatic documentation

me today...
a scar above my right eye from an unfortunate
step in front of a swing set ...one year after the
football helmut came off {below}...i have a smaller
scar to match on the other eyelid from a run in with
a coffee table...again when i was a wee tot...
head injury a go~go...............

....easter 1959,yep,that's me in a football helmut to
protect my fractured skull....i fell down the
basement steps, landing head first on the concrete
floor below, since there was no blood my mother
thought that i was alright, until the next day when
she was brushing my hair and felt a mushy spot
on my head.off to the er we went where we were told
that nothing should come in contact with my head...
hence the football helmet {donated by a local sporting
goods store} and there it stayed for 6 weeks. i have since
wondered if that fracture may have caused later problems,
when posing the question to a dr. on occasion...their answer
was always "no",but the question remains in the back of
my mind.

self portrait tuesday,on monday,the explanation

"October Challenge - Self documentary series
The challenge for October is to do a self documentary series.

Self documentary - document yourself for a moment, for a day, for a week.
Document a specific event or an ordinary day. Be honest, be real, be true,
try to be a little gritty, do not gloss over, do not only show the pretty images.
Series - 3 images or more - a sequence of events, tell a story."

as a kid i was forever getting hurt.as an adult, same but different.
i have had alot of trauma to this body i have been given.
so i have decided that this will be the subject of my self documentary
series,i think it will be a healing experience {sorry!}
some may consider these coming images to be gritty, some may not!

stay tuned............
